Jason Messersmith was admitted to the Virginia State Bar in 2008 and joined the firm of Patten, Wornom, Hatten & Diamonstein, L.C.’s business law group that same year. He is a litigation partner within the firm’s business law group where he handles a wide array of matters including matters involving environmental law, construction law, commercial litigation, personal injury, defamation, land use, business disputes, estate disputes, landlord/tenant disputes, and traffic matters. Mr. Messersmith has extensive experience in state and federal courts and has tried both bench and jury trials.
Mr. Messersmith earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics, cum laude, from Old Dominion University in 2005. Mr. Messersmith earned his Juris Doctor from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in 2008. While in law school, he was a member of the William and Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review.
Mr. Messersmith has represented, and continues to represent, residential and construction contractors within the Hampton Roads region. He has handled complex construction matters such as mechanic’s lien litigation and claims of defective construction. Mr. Messersmith has also litigated real estate matters such as title disputes, boundary disputes, valuation disputes, partition actions, and land use disputes. He has handled personal injury matters as well as business disputes and defamation actions. He has been lead counsel and tried complex cases before general district courts and circuit courts throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mr. Messersmith has also appeared before the Supreme Court of Virginia.
